BIPOC fly fishing
Miriam Jorns is a Mexican-born, South Carolina-based fly angler whose passion for fishing began alongside her father and grew into a commitment to community, mentorship, and outdoor representation. She advocates for creating spaces where Hispanic youth and other underrepresented anglers can see themselves, show up authentically, and know they belong on the water.
In this episode of On The Reel, Bob Bartlett sits down with Los Angeles fly angler and professional guide Noël Garcia to explore her journey from growing up fishing in California’s Western Sierra to rediscovering fly fishing during cancer treatment. Noël shares how the sport helped her reconnect with life, overcome challenges, and develop a passion for surf fly fishing, leopard sharks, and corbina, while emphasizing mentorship, community, and creating a place on the water for people who have historically felt unseen in fly fishing.
