The iFishiWrite Substack is a place where emerging writers can polish their craft and gain confidence in pitching stories to professional fishing magazines and websites. When we open the pages of fishing magazines, we often see the same faces and hear the same voices, while the views and experiences of underrepresented communities are overlooked. iFishiWrite aims to help change that by offering writers from the flourishing communities of women, BIPOC, queer, disabled, and other non-dominant groups an opportunity to cultivate their talent under the guidance of a professional, trained editor.
We are a branch of iFishiBelong and we hold to the same values and mission as our parent organization: All fish, all people, all techniques. iFishiWrite is committed to the principles and vision of iFishiBelong: all species, all fish, all people.
The iFishiWrite Substack aims to serve as an incubator for underrepresented populations in the fishing literary community. We aim to prepare emerging women, BIPOC, queer, disabled, and other non-dominant communities to write and revise their work and pitch their stories to professional fishing magazines, websites, and blogs thereby diversifying the voices present in fishing literature.
iFishiWrite is looking for submissions from both emerging and established writers from nondominant communities who are looking to receive guidance in polishing their craft, pitching their stories, and sharing/publicizing their work.
We are looking for submissions covering all aspects of the sport of fishing: science, such as hydrology and entomology, instructional texts, conservation discussions, profiles of anglers, memoir pieces, and even poetry, just to name a few examples.
