Michael Peters has been fishing since he was 3! He fished with his grandfather on weekends as a kid, and at the age of 5 years old fished in his grandfather’s pond every single day during the summer. Mike grew up in Lakewood, CA. where he was a standout track star and football player and went on to play running back and kick returner for OLE MISS.
Mike used to primarily fish the ocean tracing tuna, shallow water rockfish and many other species. He has fished off of the coast of San Diego, and the Channel Islands near Ventura and Santa Barbara and has experience fishing the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. He has fished all over the country for trout, in Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Minnesota, Oregon for Small Bass and Steelhead as well as the Trinity River in Northern CA for Steelhead. He also fishes for salmon in Alaska were he currently holds a guide’s license. He also attended South Lake Tahoe Guide School and received professional training in the sport of fishing, which he loves. Mike is active in the local fly-fishing clubs in his area including the Long Beach Casting Club in Long Beach, CA.
Mike sits on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Fly Casters and is sets up all of the trips for the club. Mike also competed in the Long Beach Casting Club Open Two-handed Spey Casting Tournament and won the men’s amateur division in 2020. He is currently training to compete at Spey-O-Rama in San Francisco amongst the top Spey casters in the world. Mike is also on the U.S. Fly Casting Team. He was a panel speaker on Saltwater fishing for the 2022 Double Hall Ball in Long Beach CA. and a panel speaker at Patagonia in Santa Monica on the debut of the film Mighty Waters in 2022. He holds a guide license in CA and guide’s the surf inshore on local beaches, the Upper Owens River, Lower Owens River, the Eastern Sierra Nevada’s and provides hosted trips to fish Catalina Island offshore in CA. He also has a guide’s license in Montana and provides hosted trips to fish the Bighorn River in MT.
Mike is a financial advisor at a major Wall Street Firm and resides in Long Beach with his family. In Mike’s downtime he enjoys fishing the back country, and he has two large saltwater aquariums which he enjoys taking care of.
As a dedicated father, he spends many hours developing his two sons into star baseball, soccer players, and of course fly fishermen.
